Any tips here? How do they syn song with videos for example - therea must be some hard work going on or does one lay up stuff in a diffeerent wat to begin with?

TIA!!! Garo

Just reload the scene into the trimmer, that will resync the audio. If you've added a velocity filter though, you won't be able to get it directly in sync until the video is at 100% of speed, because the velocity filter doesn't slow audio down.

Check out Excalibur's A/V Sync tool. It will cost you a few dollars, but is a great time saver.

A couple of issues here -

1> Shooting picture with audio, as in shooting video and recording the audio on the same tape at the same time. For this the methods that aare mentioned will work because, assuming you captured both audio and video at the same time, you would be able to re-sync the sound.

2> film method where you shoot picture with the camera and record audio on another device - a nagra or a dat for example. You than bring in the picture and bring in the audio a two seperate events (media) and you sync them up via a slate. Now in this case simple restoring the original media may not work. You would need to sync up the media and than lock those events together. In theory as long as that audio and that picture were locked you can trim and move and keep in sync. But if you do move on or the other you are more or less screwed.

3> Music video - mostly shot with a visual SMPTE TCat the head or tail for sync. Audio would also have the same TC. Not sure if VV can do this - sync the TC's for audio and picture. Sync as above and lock together but if you do happen to unlock and move you could always re-sync via the TC. However, as I mentioned, I don't think VV can do this. Unless it is hidden somewhere you can't just click on a "Lock to SMPTE TC" or "Re-Sync/Re-Lock media based on SMPTE TC" button.

Solutions - if you sync up your dailies film style you can render it out and bring it back in. A example would be to sync up files named "Bobruns-take1.avi" and "Bobruns-take1-audio.wav" than render a new "Bobruns-take1.avi" to a folder called "Synced." Now go into the media pool and right click on the original "Bobruns-take1.avi" and choose "replace" and select the newly rendered version. Yeah, it is a long way around but right now it is about the only solution to lock audio and video that isn't already locked.
