System is low on memory when rendering

chrsschb wrote on 12/5/2023, 7:23 PM

Just upgraded from 17 to 21 today, build 187. I've been having a ton of issues with it. The others I've managed to figure out and work through but this one is throwing me for a loop. I have a pretty stout rendering PC, I should not be getting memory errors. I never had this issue on 17 rendering far more complicated projects. This current project is simply photos over an audio track at 1080p30.

PC is Win10 (current), Ryzen 5900X, 64GB RAM, 3090ti with 24GB VRAM (on current studio drivers), rendering to a 2TB NVME.

2 pictures (PNG), a 1 hour mp3, and some text overlays. This isn't exactly complex.

What's the resolution of the 2x PNG's are they cropped ?

2560x1440 for the main image and 1920x1080 for the overlay image.

Both together are less than 10 MB.

Update: It's specific to FX applied on Adjustment layers. I did the same render without the adjustment layer and it ran fine.

Edit: Only thing that sucks about this is how I was layering the FX and using masks. Before I could copy a layer, mask it, and have an effect only apply to a small portion of the image or video. Now it blocks the fx on the layer below it doing this, almost like the mask isn't fully releasing the non-masked areas. The adjustment layer does this role now but of course that's causing me issues.

So let me summarize for when/if magix shows up:

  • I can use FX on layers with no issue and renders work fine, however, with the introduction of adjustment layers I have lost the ability to mask a layer and only apply fx to that masked area. (The mask is not allowing the un-masked area to become transparent, which it should be, that's the entire point of a mask and I can show how this works in VP17 just fine).
  • If I try to use adjustment layers with fx the files will not render. They seem to have some form of memory leak and eventually get a "low memory" error ending the render. I have plenty of memory to handle this so it's not actually a low memory issue (at least not on my part, maybe the application itself).

This is great feedback, I think someone else reported the same memory issue with adjustment layers.
