Takes

I never had reason to use "Takes" before but after playing with John's great script for deshaker, it got me interested in using "Takes". Question - When I right click and drap a clip to the timeline and select "Add as take", the audio doesn't show up. I can add multiple "takes" but only get the audio for the first clip and all the additional videos. I'm not selecting "audio only" or "video only" and all the multiple video takes show up in the dropdown. The manual is no help and this has got me stumpted. I've been using Vegas since 3 lite and the takes thing looks like it has a lot of potential. What tick box am I missing or what stupid mistake am I making? thanks.

Well, you can certainly do it in two operations: right-click-drag the file to the video portion of the event (select "add as takes"); then, do the same thing with the same file, but on the audio portion of the event. You can then toggle each one (the audio, or the video).

If you right-click-drag BOTH events from Project Media to the timeline at the same time, it will include the audio if you select "Add as takes" from the menu that will appear. Otherwise, what johnmeyer said.

Ah, I was doing it from Vegas Explorer. I learned something.

I usually do takes out of the trimmer, and I have to do video and audio separately.

One thing I have found is that if you press T, you only change the portion that is highlighted (whether it is the audio or the video portion) even if the events are grouped. But if you ctrl click both audio and video, you can press T and change both at the same time. That way the correct audio and video stay together.

One thing I do wish for is an easy way on the timeline to see which events had takes. Maybe a little T symbol in the box or something. Sometimes I have several different parts in a project that have different takes, and I can't always remember which ones are which.

kairosmatt - Takes do get shown as, for example, 1st of 4 takes by 1 / 4 or 3of4 as 3 / 4.

I don't know IF this would assist your memory, helps mine, but if you RIGHT click on an Event with takes within them you get to see the list of takes there.

Plus "Edit Detail" view gives you Takes info too.

Grazie,
Thanks for the tips. I did know about looking through the right click options and "edit detail."

I was looking for a way to actually display it on the timeline, like your first hint. I wasn't seeing it on my timeline. Turns out there is an easy option right under view: "Active Take Information"

Every time I jump onto this forum I learn something new...even if it is ridiculously simply!!
