Easy to do with a still photo (I do it all the time). You clone the background to cover the old lady and then cut out a photo of the real mom and drop that into the picture, feathering the edges a bit to make it blend in.

Doing this with movie footage is really tough, unless you plan for it ahead of time and film against a blue or green background.

It can be done...but maybe not directly in Vegas.

You could or would have to do some rotoscoping, and take out the unwanted person and put in the wanted person - one frame at a time......trust me.....after about 20 frames - your eyes start to bleed.

That aint fun.

But...if it is worth it to you - then it can be done.

Just ask R. Kelly!!

Here is something you could do in vegas....really easy.

You could take a still of your real mother and put her in on top of the footage of your stepmonster...uhm, sorry...I mean mother - and use the track motion to synch it to the movement. I've done that plentiotimes.

Check out my X-Men Movie

When is the divorce. You're wife will cut your nuts off for doing this. Seriously, this is very tough to do. I recommend Commotion Pro or After Effects. Oh, and a bullet proof vest.

I would mark the frames, then export to still using script and edit it. Then import back to vegas using script. The idea of "clone" could work. The problem with "clone" is that is "blowing" pixels. Need to watch for that.
Would the Morph will work?

You want to do a Forrest Gump, right? Like when he's shaking hands with the president or is seen in footage shot ages ago. Weeeeell, the way to do it in your case is to get your mom in front of a blue/green screen and have her mimic your stepmothers moves as accurately as possible. Do retake after retake until you're satisfied. Make sure the light is as accurate as well (you know, indoor, outdoor, hard, soft, from what direction et cetera). Now put the original footage as background and you new mom-footage as foreground. Use pan/crop to move your mom in x-y-z, or a motion tracker in RED3GL (or any other software with this function) to get it perfect. Make sure you color correct mom to match the original material. Also add whatever faulty image quality the stepmom footage has, to the new. Maybe put grain or some other overall effect to the master video bus. If parts of stepmom are behind other people or objects and you want mom to look the same, you need to use masks. One great tool to do that is Eyons Digital Fusion. You can draw masks any way you like with Bezier splines and animate them any way you want. Digital Fusion was used to composite the Titanic movie.
The easiest and least time consuming way to do it would probably be to get married again and not invite the stepmom.

Could you at least get some footage for us from when you show everyone your final project?

Good luck!
