Tape to Canon HV30 to VMS

I have a Canon HV30. Windows 7. I've had no problems filming videos and capturing using VMS and firewire.

I have just transferred a 23 year old tape to my HV30, using the AV input. The transfer went fine. However now when trying to capture to my PC using VMS, I get "Device Not Available", no matter what I do.

Perhaps the old video format is a problem ?

Can anyone help please ?

Windows 7 and HDV doesn't play well, you might want to try and find that old firewire driver and install it, it's a trick that worked for some.

Is the camera still in "record" or "camera" mode? Switch it back to "VCR" or "play" instead.

Eugenia,

" you might want to try and find that old firewire driver "
What driver is that ?

Chienworks,

Yes, it was in play mode.

I did manage to get the video to download using Nero. However it stored as an avi, with no audio.
Any suggestions please ?

Solved. I selected external capture with VMS.
Capture using the external app, as an avi WITH sound.
