I can't answer exactly for sure, but I'm pretty sure if it works with cubase, it will work with Vegas. I think all firewire multi-channel mixers will work. I just bought a 14 channel one, but haven't tested it yet. I'm expecting it to work, but it comes with Cubase LE. (which will only allow 4 channels)
I believe farss said these would work, but you may want to wait for a confirmation from somebody who's tried already.
According to the website it also can emulate the Mackie Control Universal (MCU) so it should also be possible to use it to some extent as a control surface.
I say "to some extent" begause the MCU (which is the control surface Vegas works best with) has a lot more buttons than the FW-1082 so in order to fully emulate it it would be necessary for some of the buttons to have multiple functions. If this kind of multiple mapping has been implemented in the FW-1082's MCU emulation then it should be usable (if perhaps a little awkward). (The Behringer BCF2000 that I use as a control surface works this way.) But if the MCU emulation is only partial then you may find that some of the functions of the MCU necessary for use with Vegas may not be available.
NB. The FW-1082 also emulates the HUI protocol and I've noticed that some messages hereabouts recently have implied that this is usable with Vegas. This is not correct. Although there has been some talk of implementing HUI support in future versions of Vegas this has not yet been done (and perhaps never will be) so at the moment there is no inbuilt support for HUI in Vegas.
Yes, it works with Vegas Pro 8. However, you can't just plug it in and expect it to work. You have to configure it in Vegas as a Generic controller, assign buttons to enter audio mode and turn on automation, and teach the software to recognise your faders.
If you can make it through the minefield, you will then be able to write automated levels to your audio tracks with the FW-1082.
The disappointing bit is that the motorized faders will not respond to Vegas in this mode. This means that if you create a series of automated control points in a mixing session, and want to go back and alter the mix, the faders will not automatically match the position of your mix.
You have to move the FW-1082 fader until it corresponds to the level you had before, and then Vegas will start to accept new values from the fader.
If you simply plug the FW-1082 in and tell Vegas it emulates the Mackie, you get motorized faders working as they should, but only controlling the trim level ot the audio track - no automation at all. Not very usefull!
Sorry if this is confusing, but I can't think of an easier way to explain it.
If you want more info, let me know. The Tascam is a great unit, and with its analog inputs, more versatile than the Mackie. I use mine as a pre-amp for my microphone, to record voice-overs
