Probably not this particular model, but Vegas should be able to handle just about any FireWire Mixer
You just have to fumble your way through poor directions and lousy support, but it will probably work.
As far as I can tell, only a very small percentage of people seem to realize they could have multi-track recorders with a FireWire mixer and Vegas.
I have, for sure, 14 tracks and maybe 16 with some manipulating and I'm using a cheapie by Phonic, the Helix 18. The company has never responded to me, but I finally got it doing what I need by trial & error. Since Phonic has never responded, I never recommend them, but mine does work pretty good now. (yes, very quiet inputs. Every knob is worthless for recording except the trim on the XLR inputs)
By the way, although I have it, I have not installed Vegas 8 yet, but I can't see why it wouldn't work
If you have a specific question, ask. I saw somebody ask about the Tascam once before and nobody responded (besides me) As far as FireWire mixers go, I've only seen others comment on models usually found mostly in Video catalogs. Presonis? I think
You may also try the Sony Soundforge forum, as that's all audio with a lot of traffic

Bump because I own a FW-1884 that I have been unable to use with Vegas.

If you could describe the process you try to go thru to record, maybe something will click with me. But it being from a different company........ you know.
For me, I need to switch my 'Audio device type' in Preferences/AudioDevice, to my ASIO drivers (supplied by Phonic) Then I open as many audio tracks as I'm going to use, I then place my mouse icon on the 'Arm to record' button and right click. Going to 'Record Inputs', I go to 'Mono' and assign a track number. I do this for each audio track. Hopefully, assigning the inputs of the firewire mixer to each channel/track
One trick I learned, is you have to turn on your firewire mixer before turning on your computer. It may not apply to all, but my ASIO drivers would disappear if I did it the opposite way. (thanks farss) I'd have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers until I learned this. As long as I don't turn the Mixer on after the PC, they stay in place.
Then I arm each track to record and I'm ready to go. I just hit the record button in the timeline and I'm Multi-tracking.
That's a quick description.
I really spent a few weeks figuring it out before it suddenly seemed extra simple.
Check for newer drivers from the manufacturer
I still have more testing to do, but I can get a pretty good recording now. I just need to figure out how to monitor when doing Sound with sound recordings, without work-arounds.
