Task Switching / Multi Tasking Delay

I'm running Win7x64 and Vegas9.0c.

When I switch between apps in Windows, there's a very significant delay which appears to increase depending on the complexity of my project. An empty project has no pause at all when switching.

Running a quad-core Q9450 @ 2.66 GHz (and 7 GB RAM), the pause with my current project is ~12 seconds. That's 12 seconds of Vegas showing busy cursor and if I click on anything else, I'll start waiting through those 12 seconds again.

There is NO pause when I switch from Vegas to any other app. The pause is only when I switch back to Vegas.

I've tried disabling Media Manager and restarted Vegas. The delay is still there.

It really does impact my productivity. Any suggestions?

Thanks, -Gord

This may be caused by Vegas releasing the files so they can be used by other programs (such as Acid or Photoshop) and then it has to re-acquire them when you change the focus back to vegas. There is a switch to turn this option off, but then your files are locked when you are focused off of Vegas.

"Close media files when not the active application"... disabled.

Ah thanks Dave! I do see the value in not-locking them, so for smaller projects I may enable this feature. But this will help me with the big ones.
