I'm assuming you're trying to burn a DVD? I've no idea why it's failing, but you don't have to burn from MS - if you choose "prepare DVD", the video_ts folder will be created on your HD. You can then use different software to put this on the DVD. Which software you use depends on the standalone player(s) you're going to use - the DVD standard says that the DVD should be written in UDF format, but most modern players don't enforce it. If you must use UDF, then you'll need a commercial program like Nero. If you're not forced to use UDF then any of the freeware DVD writing packages will work.

go to www.vso-software.fr and download the trial version of CopyToDVD, see if it will work with your burner. If it does you can 1) Formally report the problem to Sony and 2) consider whether to purchase CopyToDVD - $36 when the 10% discount is applied if they still are offering it.
