TDK +R 4X Media

Hey all, quick question.
The last project I burned I used Imation +R media. The max speed on them was 2.4X, and I never got any reports about bad disc from people. Recently, I got a 100-spindle pack of TDK +R discs. They say 'Support speeds up to 4X', but so far I've already had 2 different DVD players have problems with them. I recorded the project at 2.4X, because I thought I read that slower speeds helps insure compatibility with older DVD players. However, after some digging on TDK's site, I found a page that was offering the same discs I'm using (but in singles, not spindles) and it said that it should only be used in a 4X compatible drive. Am I safe to assume that the discs don't like slower burn speeds, so therfore I should burn at 4X??
Any speculation on this would be appreciated!

Cheers,
Ben

I've got a 100 spindle pack of TDK 4X disks. I haven't noticed any problem with them.

I've burned at both 2.4 and 4X speeds. I usually burn at 2.4X if I know there's a lot of data going to go on the disk. For lower quantity data burns, I use 4X.

I just figure that burning at higher speed is more likely to cause problems, especially when filling the disks to the max.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought. I'm burning about 3.8 GB of data per disc, which is why I used the 2.4X burn speed. What make is your DVD Burner? Mine is branded as Cendyne, but my computer lists it as an NEC.

Thanks for the comment, though

See my post about Verbatim 4X burned at 4X. Nary a glitch with 2 hour DVDs played back on two of the cheapest DVD players WalMart sells. It is wise to go out and buy a crappy DVD player to ensure your discs are fairly univsersally compatible. Gold Star is real cheap and pretty common in people's houses, at least in Alberta.

Thanks for the advice there. I might end up purchasing one; my family has two, and one is a little more picky than the other, which is what I was testing on.

Thanks again,
Ben
