Tele conversion lens/ telephoto lens

Photography 101... what does a tele conversion lens do....I am searching for a camcorder with a more powerful zoom that is readyly available on the market... I would like a 30 times zoom ....
let's say from 10x zoom to 30x zoom.. would a 2.0x telephoto lens doubles the zoom x? 3.0x... triples....?
Sorry for my ignorance.... still learning....

I wouldn't go for anything further than 12x. It's not that important. Look at my shots between two camcorders on my review here:

The first one can do 28x and the other one 18x. And the difference between them is insignificant regarding their zooming level!

My other camera, the Canon HV20 HDV can only do 10x and it's more than enough.
