About a year ago I did a typewriter effect for a video using the trial version of SwishMax. It was very easy and looked great. This program is also very good for doing more sophisticated titles than you can currently do in Vegas.
Well .. . I don;t know just what I'm doing wrong . but.
I believe I've followed jr instruction and but I keep getting the word "ABCDEFG" growing from the "virtual" word Centre. And no, I do have the text Left justified. And yes this IS happening on the Left hand side of the screen. I have tried even using Placement to force a "left" position. But I still get this creation of the word from it's virtual centre. Meaning: A is typed and when I type B the space now occupied by both letters is shared and centred on THAT space. I then add C and then this set of 3 letters is again re-centred. Type D and the same happens - this set of 4 letters is centred on THAT position. I'm not saying the text is Centre justified, but the actual word - ABCD - is centred about its relative position on the Screen at that point - not "Centre" justified.
the keyframe by keyframe is a bit slow for me. I'd like to see more of Swish before commiting to buy at the price.
Any other software out there that can create a really good teletype effect?
thanks for your replies so far.

I have a tutorial on: How to make an animated title in Vegas using SWISHmax on my web site complete with screen shots and the final video results. It uses the typewriter effect as an example. Swish is great for all sorts of title effects and you can drop the SWF file right into Vegas without any need for pre-rendering.
ok ok ok . . but I can't make it work? I get twisted about . . jr? I have a word that gets bigger from the centre out . .and I don't mean Left<>Right<>Centre justified.
Me too. I get the same effect and I want to use the correct one!
Also while on the subject, how do you alter the length of a generated media? no use dragging as this just repeats.
Brian
Hi Brian, well, I don't know about "correct one", but I would appreciate a "Reality Check" on what I'm actually doing that is incorrect so as I can file this and move on? Yeah? OR maybe log an issue - yeah?
" . . how do you alter the length of a generated media? " Now that I know!
* Insert Generated Media
* On the line saying: "Frame size" there is an option to change the length.
* Enter your NEW length seconds or whatever, the seconds larger than a minute will update correctly to minutes if greater than 60 seconds -
* Exit and now pull out the GenMed event till you get the FIRST "notch" and that will be your new length.
Grazie,
are you aware of the fact that there are "left centre right" options both in the placement dialogue and the main dialogue window - where you select the font? I've been banging my head against that wall before, so I thought I'd mention it.
Tor
" . . are you aware of the fact that there are "left centre right" options both in the placement dialogue and the main dialogue window - where you select the font? " Yes I had. Was this mentioned in jr's Tute? Not that I can see - and pretty fundamental too! What he does say is:
"Make sure you press the Left Justify button because text is center justified by default. If the text is centered it will move as you add more letters."
I can't tell if John says I needed to adjust LEFT<>CENTRE<>RIGHT Placement. But yes I did adjust this and still got the same result.
NOW, what Peter says, " . . but if you change the keyframes to "Hold" - see the difference! " Yes and this I followed from jr's tute. And no I didn;t get this.
So here's the thing:
Yah needs to use Placement PLUS Hold. This then forces the typewriter thing to work. "Hold", by itself - no. Placement, by itself - no. Well that's what I'm getting.
When I do both and to EACH and every K/F it works. I now get words appearing letter by letter from the left hand edge.
