testing dvds before burning

I'm having mixed results when playing back dual layer (or is that "double layer"?) dvds, and I'm trying to nail down where the problem is. I have old versions of Power DVD and WinDVD which came with older video cards, and I can install those, but I don't even know whether those will play dvd files (the audio/video folders rendered from DVDA), or will only play actual dvds.

I was just wondering what other people use to test their rendered dvd files (the audio/video folders) before burning them to dvds?

thanks!

WinDVD 5 is what I use to test my DVDs, it works great. I double click on the video_ts.ifo file in the VIDEO_TS folder and WinDVD launches. If the menus operate as I expect and the video/audio plays normally, I start burning. Go for it.

At the moment Cyberlink seems to be everywhere, so I use an OEM version 7 for testing - you can pick up the discs for dirt cheap. I figure lowest common denominator...
