I read somewhere in a post on this forum removing a Dazzle device and plugging a fire wire cable into this card. Can anyone tell me if this work and what do I attach the other end into if I am tring to capture analog video from my hi8 camcorder? I want to work with all the home video I have done over the years before I go out and buy a digital camcorder. Is there a cheap device that needs to be attached to the other end of the firewire? Thanks in advance!

Reelnut;

The firewire connection referred to is from digital camera to the computer. If you have an analog camera, you will need some kind of hardware to convert the analog signal into a digital stream that your firewire card can deal with. That's the job your external Dazzle device was intended to do. The problem is that it is a model that was produced to Dell specifications, and will only work with the Dell version of VW4.

The Analog/Digital converted will probably be the most expensive item that you have to re-buy.

I bought a Canopus ADVC-100 converter to replace my Dell/Dazzle, and I love it, but there are several others on the market, as well as multifunction cards that can be installed in your computer. I'll leave specific referrals on the other choices to other readers of this post who have first hand experience.
