Text Clip backgrounds not 100% Black.

This is driving me nuts. I'm doing a documentary.

I'm doing titles/credits with the text editor and all the clips I make with a black background look "dark gray" not 100% black. I need them 100% black.

It's really bad looking when you fade between a 100% Black background video clip into a 85% black background.

Looking for any help I can get.

Make sure the "A" (Alpha) in Background color is set to 255 for text media with a colored background and the rgb sliders are all the way to the left for absolute black.

You could also use the text with a transparent background if there is nothing else below the text track.

In credit rolls make the sure the background color in styles is r, g and b all the way to the left and Alpha is 255.

Finally, make sure you haven't inadvertently dragged the opacity envelope on the clip down and the level slider for the track is at 100%.

Thanks!

How can I get there?

Click on the text media button at the left of the clip (third one up) and the dialog will open up. Refer to my last post for different text media. I don't know if this is your problem, but that would be the first thing to check. I'm sure somewhere, whether at track level or in the text media clip, itself, you've set either the background color to less than 100%, less than black, or the opacity envelope might not be 100%. (To get to the opacity envelope click at the top of the click. You will be able to drag a horizontal line up and down to set the opacity).

Ok I got it.

It's set that way by default. Everything you said checks out. But it's still gray. I'll try the Transparent idea you mentioned.

Thanks for all the help!

background color is set to 100%
envelope set to 100%
Opacity level set to 100%
All sliders are left
Alpha is 255

Still trying things

Adding a Black background below the Text track worked. Text track was set to "0" Alpha.

But I shouldn't have to do that. Must be a bug. Text background will not go 100% black. Oh well, maybe on version 4.0 it's fixed. I haven't upgraded yet.

Thanks again!

It was because it's on a "A&B" track. I dragged it to a regular Video track and it's fixed!

I don't remember if its covered in the documentation, but once you set up a parent child relationship with tracks they are no longer 'normal' tracks in the sense some things become altered due to the relationship. As you've discovered, moving the event to a new track fixes it.

I added a "Brightness and Contrast video filter to a clip on the A&B track (well at least I thought I did to just one clip). Come to find out the WHOLE INTER track had B&C applied to it.

Gosh we learn so much from our mistakes!
