I got the defaults back to normal but the text generator still won't popup in it's own box. It is too small to work with (and a pain) when it inserts itself in one of the other boxs.

Most any of the windows can be docked or undocked. Look at your Text window in the tabbed area. At the upper left corner is an "x", with a triangle below it, and a row of dots below that. Click and hold on the "dots" and you can now drag the window out of the docking area and release it somewhere else.

It's kind of tricky, because sometimes when you move the window it automatically wants to dock into whatever area is below it. Keep the upper part of the window away from the upper part of the docking areas and you should be okay.
