Text Effect

Was wondering how to create a linear blur text effect similar to what is found in the Digital Showcase movie:

As you play the movie, stop at the text which reads: "Come to the old haunted Covington Farm House..." I want to know how to make the letters appear randomly. It might take awhile for the file to load so be aware of that.

Any thoughts?

I should also mention, I am using V6.

Short of doing each character manually, I'd guess it wasn't done in V6. Probably Boris or After Effects.
The liniar blur is easy, though. Just make the X & Y values different in a Gradiant Blur - or use a liniar blur.

What I found myself doing was creating masks using Photoshop and inserting them into the Vegas timeline. I didn't know if there might be a quicker/better way to get the same results.

Yes, the linear blur effect is pretty straight forward. It is the masking I was having difficulty with. Still don't have a good grasp using parent/child techniques.

with relative ease, i'm sure. no preset, but one could be made.
