Text generator Font preview?

rique wrote on 3/9/2003, 6:12 PM
Is there a way to get the drop down list of fonts to actually display each font's style? So that, for example, the name "AcademyEngravedLET" on the drop down list is actually displayed using AcademyEngravedLET, and each subsequent font is also displayed in its own style? That way you don't have to actually select the font to see what it looks like. This feature is a nice time saver in programs like Word and DVD Workshop, and it would be a great help in Vegas and DVDA. Otherwise selecting fonts is hit and miss, even if you have a general memory of what some of your most often used fonts look like.

Hi Rique,

You might try highlighting the text and then clicking in the text dropdown box twice so the font-names are highlighted... you should be able to use your arrow-keys to scroll through the fonts.

That is the way I've been doing it. Works fine for me.

Hi Marty!

Hmmm . . I read rique's question and I picked up on,"That way you don't have to actually select the font to see what it looks like." - I thought this was a plea for an exmaple of the "font" as one gets in say, MS Word - yeah?

Yes Marty, we can get a "list" of the fonts - but a pre-font-example would also be good.

Yes, that's what I was after, but until SOFO makes it available, Marty's method of selecting the text and scrolling through the fonts to see the text change is a good time saving tip.

"Yes, that's what I was after" - Yeah, thought so.

IMHO a truly valuable "Wish-List" item - SoFo you reading this? - Rique, there's a SoFo wishlist site - make an entry!

There actually seem to be a couple of bugs relating to the font list: (1) scrolling - using the arrow keys - seems to stop when Vegas encounters some fonts which don't support the Basic Latin character set, (2) some of the fonts (Arial, Courier New, Times New Roman) that support multiple code pages, are reported as several fonts.

I personally wouldn't ever want this to be more than an option (as it is in Word, though the default) as it's less than helpful with expert sets, symbols and ornaments.

Not the solution you are looking for, but my boyfriend wrote a program a while ago that we use for this very type of situation. It displays all your fonts in their font. It's a simple, but effective app. Should work until SoFo can add the feature to DVDA.
