Text Generator Settings & Presets?

FWrend wrote on 1/23/2019, 10:54 AM

Hi, I am using Vegas Pro 14 and wondering if there is a way to quickly adjust Text Settings (font/size/color/shadow etc.) for multiple clips. Sometimes I have to make adjustments for different projectors and end up having to painstakingly adjust each item in each clip.

I tried saving a preset but it saves the actual text as well. It would be nice to be able to apply the settings without replacing the actual text. Make sense?

Or perhaps there is a script or batch alternative?

Thanks!

Is it so difficult to enter a new text in an already made preset for lettertype, effects, background, animations a.s.o. by typing or copy/paste?

So, for example, if you have 50 titles or subtitles in your project and you decide to change the font/size/color etc, it would be a big fat drag to copy a preset of the new font/size/color scheme and then re-type the text of each title or subtitle. Long long ago, Grazie came up with a solution (of sorts) .. I have not tried this solution but perhaps it will help generate ideas to find the best that Vegas can do at the moment. In this case Grazie was talking about re-working subtitles.

Timeline Method:-
1] Dupe the Text Subtitle Track to Track1
2] In the First Text Event in Track2 create the way you want the Text Event to look and make a Preset "MyTextA"
3] Go to the First Text Event on Track and apply the "MyTextA" - and YES it will be the same as your first Event on Track2, but NOW you have a Preset
4] Go to your 2nd Text Event on Track2 and Copy ALL the Text
5] Go to your 2nd Text Event on Track1 and apply "MyTextA" Preset, and YES it will have the original TExt from your Preset, BUT you still have with the clipboard your Text from your 2nd Text event. highlight the ALL Text and go PASTE!

What you have done is:
A] Created a Preset
. .and then . .
B] Copied your Original Text into the NEW preset Text events.

It sounds mammoth but it DOES work! - I think you could also streamline this by using just ONE track, as long as you copy the Text content prior to adding the Preset.

Agreed. Lots of work but copy and pasting the titles into a revised preset seems the best solution short of spending $99 ..

Exactly! I remember now the Vegasaurus software which does some nice things but I just can't justify it for no more than I do. Demo mode only allows 3 edits.

I was hoping there was something I was missing in Vegas.

Thanks again xberk!

If I follow @FWrend correctly, and I agree with him. He is not changing the text, he is changing the attributes of the titles to conform to a required render layout. I faced off with this once long ago and it was quite a pain and a lot of labor I would have liked to of avoided.

FWIW, this is for a music lyric video so not just a title but the whole song.

I do typically use a Word document to setup the lyric once I know the font and size I want to use then yes, it is a matter of a BUNCH of Ctl+X, Alt+Tab, Highlight,& Ctl+V's etc.!

But, your screwed if you finish and want to change a shadow, outline, or such. It would be nice to have an easier way to do that within the program....just sayin' 🙂

Sorry but I don't get the problem.
Can you explain it to me while all settings, except the text, cannot be saved in one preset?
And maybe please give a screenshot or screenvideo of showing the problem.

Nope, can't do screen capture but I'll try to explain it again.

This particular project has 40+ text clips (sorry if this is the wrong term) in the first video track. If I decide I want a tighter shadow on the text, a different color of font, or such, I would have to change each individual clip.

Calling up a preset (after the fact) in the generator uses what ever actual text (words) are in the preset so all 40+ clips have the same text or in the case the preset has no text, deletes existing text in all 40+ clips.

It would be nice to be able to apply any change apart from actual text on all clips at once or at minimum all selected clips.

This is also one of the features in Titler Pro. You can create a template and create multiple titles using that template. Then if the template needs to change, you have the option of changing only that one title or all titles using that template in the project.

j-v wrote on 1/23/2019, 4:08 PM

Still I dont get it.
You typed all those 40+ song texts one by one in an text event and now you want to change each text event to other settings and let the text stay?
Or must each text event has other different settings?
You have not copy/past the songtest from elswhere in each text event?
That is the way I always did at former church video's f.i.

I had the same issue with subtitles after the client wanted them to stand out more. Editing dozens of boxes was such a waste of time!
