Text in Vegas Video

Hello All.

I have the new version of Vegas & have been using it for a while. I always seem to struggle with text. I know how to insert text, but I find it very difficult to show up with the video (I have it as a seperate track). In some cases I want the text to fade in w/ the video and then fade out before the video is done. The default composite mode is Source Alpha.

Anyone out there know an easy way to add text to a project so it shows up on the video without messing with the Level?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Text should nearly always be on it's own track, so in that case, it won't mess with levels at all. Just use a standard fade on the text as you would any other video or graphic event.
If you want to have the text match the fade in of video, fade the video as desired. Make sure snapping is enabled. (F8 key)
Then park the cursor where the video fadein ends, and now fade the text to match. The text fadein will "snap" to the cursor, which is parked at the same place as the video fade in.
Then fade the text out whereever you'd like to make it fade out.

Place the video on track 2 and the text on track 1. Use one of the transparent background presets for the text (the thumbnails show a checkerboard background). Stretch the text out for the duration you want and then add fades at the beginning and end.

If you're dealing with plain text you'll also want to set it apart from the background with an outline and shadow, as well as using bold fonts.

Try these track motion settings to get started:
2D Shadow
blur 2
intensity 5
black color

Glow
blur 0
intensity 100
Width 720
Height 480
