Text "media" vs "event"

Having a little problem adding a transition to text....I've done a number of "insert, text media" above an unlying track....when I try to drag a transition onto the "text media" I get the dreaded black circle with the crossed line. Should I be creating text as an event? If so, how? (I know this has to be easy, but I'm a little slow in the gray matter area)

Assistance appreciated - Birdman

You can only drop a transition on a faded area. If you haven't added any fades or crossfades then you can't transition. You can transition between two text events (or any visual events) by overlapping them and adding the transition to the overlap area. If you want to transition a stand-alone text event (or any visual event) against the background then add a fade in/out and drop the transition on that.

Inserting text from the menu is exactely the same as dragging it from the media generators.

I think you are not dragging the transition at the proper place, you need to drag it at the edge of the clip, not on the clip itself. To make it easier, prior to dragging the transition, pull a short fade and the end or beggining and drag the transition in the fade section.

Edit :
Kelly was faster than me :)

Just to add to what Kelly said, you don't need to have a fade prior to dragging a transition, you can drag it on the edge of the clip, but you need to be precise, this will add a transition with the default lenght.
