Text placement not centered

Randy Brown wrote on 5/27/2004, 10:36 AM
This also happened in V4 for me so I don't think it's a bug (at least not a new one) but when using the text generator and looking at the "placement" tab everything seems to be off to the right...ie set on "center" positions (top center, center, bottom center) the the far-right letter is actually outside the red safe line (same placement visually on my external monitor also). It's not a big deal to set it free form but just wondering if my monitor is actually off and Vegas is smart enough to know.

Mine looks centered to me, both on the PC monitor and the external monitor.

While the external monitor should be used as the final check on what things really look like, text centering is one where I would rely more on the preview display within Vegas itself. If it looks centered there, then it is centered.

Could you have spaces to the left of a text line - this could push things to the right when centred.

The preview display shows the same placement (not centered) as the ext. monitor John.
Good point Peter, although I had no spaces to the left, I did try a couple other fonts and they were perfectly centered...this behavior only happens when using "Elegance" ( which I use about 20% of the time). Mystery solved ...sorry for such a frivolous post everyone.
Thanks guys,
Randy

I think that is a script font, yes? Probably a kerning issue. The slant of the font and the kerning might very well give the appearance of a shift to the right, especially at larger point sizes.

I don't know John, it must have come with another software I have installed if it's not a standard font.

Yep, you're right, it is strange to try and put your cursor in the middle of a word, it seems to always land in front or behind the letter I'm shooting for...I'm just glad the "mystery" is finally solved.
Thanks for everyone's patience,
