Are text regions something new? Or is V5 just using the Marker names as the text subtitles? My concern is that you can only have 99 markers, and with the amount of different dialog lines you'll need more than 99 markers.
First of all, Vegas has never been limited to 99 markers/regions, but the little numbers on the region/marker headers ARE limited to 99. After you pass 99 you'll just get blank headers. Okay with that out of the way...
Vegas 5 is just using the "region" names as the text subtitles. There MAY be a limitation to the number of characters you can put in the name, but it's unlikely the limit will be a problem... it's at least 260 characters.
If it is using "Region" names as subtitle info, than you can't set up regions for other things at the same time, like let's say you want to split the project in two for rendering purposes or what have you...
I have V4, I'm just trying to get a grasp of how to deal with V5...when I can afford it...
I see what you mean - and what I think is inevitably going to happen is someone is going to modify the subtitle export script to utilize "Event Names" rather than region names. So you would have an extra track full of "dummy" events and their names will be your subtitles.
