Text Scrolling & Text captions on individual slides & Zoom

robert-lyons wrote on 7/29/2025, 10:18 AM

I have Vegas Pro 19. It replaced the now defunct ProShow Gold program, which I have used for years.

  1. I would like to make a slide show which has an opening of scrolling text (either straight scrolling or in the Star Wars fashion of scrolling, where the text goes up and shrinks as it goes up).
  2. I would also like to put captions on each still picture in the Vegas Pro application.
  3. Zoom in and out of each picture.

To see what I am talking about, please see the first few minutes of this video, which shows scrolling text and captions on each, in addition to the zoom feature.

This was created years ago in ProShow Gold. Can I do the same 3 functions in Vegas Pro 19? And how to do these 2 things?

Of course you can do this in Vegas and even much more...for zooming effects take a look at the pan/crop tool.

Hello 3POINT. Thanks for the response. Where is this pan/crop tool? I looked under tools and it is not there.
Also, what about the scrolling Star Wars text and the captions?...where are they located?

@robert-lyons The answer to your question could vary in many ways as there's more than one way to achieve what you want & without you knowing a few basics of the program you're going to struggle to understand the replies & suggestions you receive. Perhaps you should have a look through the Tutorials at the top of this page, this is the link if you can't find it https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/tutorials/

@robert-lyons or use the slide show creator tool inside Vegaspro for quick production of slideshows. For a quick tutorial how to:

Do also search on YouTube for Tutorials for other features like pan/crop tool or how to create a star wars text effect, there are tons of Tutorials for VegasPro on YT.

@robert-lyons Take a look above for a free tool that will automate the process.

To access Pan/Crop, here's a couple of ways:

Thanks for all your responses. I got frustrated with the complexity. So, since I still have the install of a working ProShow Gold from Photodex (now defunct), I tried using that again. In ProShow, it was easy to do the functions which I wanted to do. So, I created this slideshow of about 160 images in 1 day, with scrolling text, with music, and with captions on select images The only function I did not do was the zoom function, although it would be easy to do if desired.

This slide show was then put onto YouTube at:

If you wish to view this, recommend that you click the "Watch on YouTube" button...that give full resolution.

Well, to get the desired product, you gotta do what you gotta do! Sorry, Vegas!

I think you could have produce this quite simple slide show (with zooms) with Vegas within an hour...but with most software you have to invest first some time to get familiar with the features of software. Time you seem don't want to spend, so all the luck with the discontinued Proshow Gold.

In what I watched, I did not see any pans or zooms. They were all static shots.

If you look at the video I first linked to, it's a free custom command you can use that would have added pans and zooms to all of the images in a few minutes.

@3POINT all I'm saying is you can do that in seconds just by dragging the pictures to the timeline - especially if the auto overlap is turned on as they did seem to fade. Select all the images, Drag to the timeline, Add the few titles between the desired photos, and done.

@jetdv I know what you mean, but as @robert-lyons seems to be frustrated by the complexity of Vegas, I tried to point him to the easy to use Slide Show Creator tool inside Vegas which creates slideshows automatically with pans/zooms and as you like, with transitions and can even create a slideshow depending on the duration of your music. Also has a storyboard where you can arrange the slides before creating the slideshow. And after the automatic creation of the slideshow you still can change pans/zooms, transitions etc as you like. Creating a slideshow just takes some minutes.
