Text to Speech

Kimberly-Durecki wrote on 8/22/2024, 3:23 PM

Hello,

Extremely frustrated. Just spend 2 hrs of time I did not have for a simple text to speech in Vegas Pro 22.

On a HUGE project and now ready to do the speech from the script.

I can create the audio and it saves to my file and I can play it, BUT when it is in Vegas it does not play

and it is is all scrambled and sounds like "scrubbing". Please please please can anyone help.

I also recreated the voice over and over and over and over, using 25% of the AI voice credits I have

with the same text to get it to work.

This is so frustrating. Thank you in advance.

I might add I already tried this is a older version as I was told Pro 21 build 208 works and it still did not work. I took the video with no voice over and put it in a cheap $30 program I had and added the voice over audio and rendered it there and it worked, so this is 100% Vegas. Sad that a $30 program will work but not one that I have invest in for the last 12 years with $$$$ update after update.

@Kimberly-Durecki I understand your frustration, glad to hear I am not alone with this problem!

I have the same problem and reported it a few weeks back to this forum, here is the link:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vp21-22-text-to-speech-bug-scrambled-imported-audio-on-long-text--146847/#ca922311

I have noticed that it happens to me with large text files with a lot of new line breaks.

Shortening the text itself (or split the text up in shorter parts) solves the issue as a workaround.

I have noticed that when the audio generated is faulty, then the audio type deviates from the normally generated type (MPEG audio instead of PCM).

I am not even sure it is the fault of Vegas as they use Microsoft's Azure servers to do the text to voice as far as I know.

The loss of credits however is regrettable as it is not your fault, and should be compensated, maybe @VEGASDerek can help with that. I think the developers must look into this issue...

@bitman Thank you. I have been battling this for some time. So disappointed as it is one of the reason I upgraded from 21. When you have a large job that wants voice over and then you go to do it and find out it does not work is extremely frustrating and a waste of hours of my time. It blow my mind that I could do it in a $30 program I had and not one that I paid $$$ for. I feel Vegas is really way behind in technology compared to other editing program that do 100x more. I see all of these really cool affects and transitions in video and Vegas cant do them. Check out this guys affect in Final Cut pro... amazing!!!!!!! https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ryan+nangle&sp=mAEB I just dont understand why it will create the voice over, you play it OUT of Vegas and it works, you import it into Vegas and it is all scrubbing sound. Sounds like a missing Codec or something maybe. Work around, take the voice over and I put it in another program ( I used Movati Video Suite Editor) and then I just rendered the voice over and then imported that into vegas and it works! It is getting something from Movati that Vegas is missing. Too bad it took 2 hrs of my time to figure this out lol. Yes I should get all my credits back. I had no idea it used credits to begin with, if so I would of not of keep on rendering 4-5 minutes of voice over about 20- 30x trying to get it to work uggg... @VEGASDerek could you help me get my credit back. Thank you. Kim

@Kimberly-Durecki I have a Vegas 365 (suite) subscription and according the hub info it should reset the 150000 text to speech character limit each month (I am currently at 93 %, I have never checked this, but I assume the reset works). A pity though with the audio issue, maybe it is a missing audio codec, I do not know, if one pays for the service, then Vegas should make sure it installs all the needed codecs or you lose credits for nothing.

I am starting to think that if the returned audio file from the servers is detected to be big, or the actual internet speed detected is low or available bandwidth at the server is low, then one of these thresholds may trigger them switching from PCM to MPEG (which is of lesser quality, but smaller size than PCM which is beneficial (takes less bandwidth) for transport over the internet...

This may also explain why some have an issue and some do not have an issue with the the same text files, depending on the current internet speed, available bandwidth, or it just plainly always works if you have that particular audio codex installed...

Yes, correct I do now know this, but is this limit for the month? Mine says 120280/160000 so does this reset monthly? 40,000 of it was because I kept redoing my voice over time after time to get it to work.. uggggg Had no idea AT THE TIME there were characters used to do this. Also, when you buy more, is this just for that month? Does the remaining roll over to the next month if you dont use them? Is this price lets say for 50,000 characters 4.99 a one time charge? None of this is explained. Also, where do I find all the media stock at? Where is it?

Always so many questions that are not clearly explained. Thank you.

Thank you. Kim

@bitman It is terrible that your subscription does not work, would think you should not have to pay for a part of it.

Why put out a new version if it does not work? Maybe the text is too long to do a voice over, if so why arent they correcting that? My internet speed is the fastest the Xfinity business offers so I know it has nothing to do with the speed. I am no expert but I have a very good feeling it is a Codec. Why would my $30 program (Movavi Video) work and this does not? BTW I love Movavi and it makes great reels and you can make them for all social media size and I can import a 3 minute video which takes Vegas 4-5 minutes to render and it will render it in about 30 seconds! The program is CHEAP and Amazing. It has AMAZING transitions and I can do so much more with it then Vegas, sad but true. Hope they get this fixed, if they even know it is an issue since you CANT directly contact them. Thank you.

may be it is giving issue in large text but i recently created two tutorials with Text to Speech feature (English).
it worked fine.

just sometimes. Generate Preview (free) stopped working. so i have to spend my character to listen and check speech.

@Reyfox  As I mentioned I did not know that text to speech used credits. How long are these credits good for, do they refill after a month? A year? Or are these credits good only for the lifetime of your program? Like I said I am on 78 or 75% right now as I kept doing my text voice over over and over and over again to try to get it to work. If you refill these is the price I see a one time cost of monthly? I feel it does not explain this in the profile. Thank you again.

Reyfox wrote on 8/24/2024, 4:47 PM

@Kimberly-Durecki I really don't know how things actually work with this. I have the same questions that you have, and there really is no clarification/details explaining this. Maybe an email sent to sales would start to open the door.

Or, you can find out when the new month rolls around to see if they are "refilled". I do know that there is a difference between perpetual and subscription, with yearly subscription having more. But whether it gets refilled each month, I can not say.

@bitman, what is the name of that audio file?

@Reyfox The screeching/scrambled sound returning from the servers (with "large text-to-speech" input), once in Vegas has also .wav as suffix/wrapper, but the stream format seems MPEG Audio, unlike a good return (smaller text input) which is also .wav, but PCM inside...

@bitman, I tried to search for the file name with no success from within the HUB. I went directly to Storyblocks and had no success their either.

As for text to speech, I've personally never used it in a project. I have played with it translating English to Polish to annoy my Polish wife, but that's it.

@Reyfox Sorry for the late reply, I was on a short break last week. The "weird" audio file produced by text to speech you were looking for, is not one of the Storyblocks, but my own text file generated by Vegas using the text to speech (probably using Microsofts azure's service).

Here is a link to my dropbox with the file which is unplayable in Vegas 22 timeline (screeching garbish), but playable when played by an external application.
