I'm going to regret this, I just know i am, but how about ProTypeTitler? - Oh well, I've said it now.

Yeah, HNY…

Or you could do it with the Chroma Keyer - looking through the letters to the colour(s) you want.

Or 2 (or more) text events on tracks on top of each other - one with the full text execpt for the word you want in another colour - which then is in the other text event.
Chienworks wrote on 12/31/2010, 4:47 AM
Considering how confusing and tedious the ProTypeTitler is, i'd avoid using it. I think a much simpler method would be to create two identical text events, same text, but different colors. Place them on adjacent tracks, one above the other. Use the Cookie Cutter to punch a hole in the upper text event to show the first word of the lower text. Use keyframes to move the whole along from word to word.
Kit wrote on 12/31/2010, 5:13 AM
Thanks for the reply, that was the first thing I tried but I couldn't figure out how to get the cookie cutter to cover just a word. I found it really awkward to use.

Thanks, I wondered about Chroma keyer, but would need to select just part of the text and not sure how to do that.
Kit wrote on 12/31/2010, 5:18 AM
Thanks, I looked at that the other day and couldn't figure it out at all. I think using it will be even more frustrating than trying to use a cookie cutter.

You might find just a Bezier mask easier, the cookie cutter is OK for what it is but it isn't much.

Try:

Timeline 1: TEXT = TTTTTT bbbb TTTTTT
Timeline 2: TEXT = bbbbbb RRR bbbbbb

This will give: TTTTTT RRR TTTTTT in preview and in the final result.

where b is a blank. TTT will be in the colour of the first text event and RRR in the second colour.
jetdv wrote on 12/31/2010, 7:40 AM
Just create the title in your photo editor using whatever colors you want. Save that as a PNG with a transparent background. Then drop the PNG file on your timeline. Instant title with multiple text colors.

Photoshop.
Letter by letter colouring if you want.

Well, I said it before and I'll say it again, this SHOULD be a job for PTT. Does somebody wanna hack it? Scares the pants off of me just thinking about it.

"Well, I said it before and I'll say it again, this SHOULD be a job for PTT. Does somebody wanna hack it? Scares the pants off of me just thinking about it. "Ha! Every time I make an attempt at PTT, I start off with "What the hell is going on here?" and (several hours later) I end up with "Ahh, that made sense." Then, 1 week later I'm back to "What the hell is going on here?".

Wow, PTT is not that hard guys... Open PTT and:

(1) Press + to Insert text and type your words
(2) Highlight the word you want to change the color
(3) Switch to the Style tab and select the new color

That's really all there is to it.

I agree with you that trying to animate in PTT is very convoluted but for static text it's just as easy as the regular Sony Text tool. ...come on... don't be scared... try it. ;-)

I agree John. And that's why I offered it as an option way back up there. It's the Animate bit that curdles my brain.

"I agree with you that trying to animate in PTT is very convoluted but for static text it's just as easy as the regular Sony Text tool. ...come on... don't be scared... try it. ;-)"But isn't that what the OP wanted to do? Animate the color or each word to sync with the audio?

I'm assuming you would use PTT to change the color of the lyrics a word at a time - then use the PTT keyframing to sync color changes with the audio. Maybe a good fit for PPT? or maybe not??

Jerry, yes.

I've not gotten to it yet, but I'll gird my loins tomorrow and see what's cooking.

The other thing is that PTT isn't yet Sync-enabled, but just now SONY Genmeds are.

Genmeds="Generated Media," but why are they "just now" synced? Thanks. Happy New Year.

PTT can't animate color changes.

Stock text can.

Stock text isn't TL synced eigther.

Use stock text, it's easiest unless you have an app to generate colors based on sounds & that can render an output Vegas can read.

"PTT can't animate color changes."Ahhh! That explains why the hour I spent trying to do this ended in failure!

Well, it is now dear boy . . it is now. One of the Woohoos that came about in VP10. In fact ALL the GenMeds are. May not have Markers - YET - but syncing is there in VP10

Very wise to not cook with loins uncovered otherwise you might regret more than invoking the spectre of PTT!

i regularly use the follow technique to give text animated colour fx -

*third track can be anything......

Thanks, I managed to change the colour of a word but is there a bug with the timeline? Help said double-click to add a keyframe but double-clicking did nothing.

Oops... I didn't read that closely and you can't keyframe the color in PTT. (sorry) I guess the regular text with multiple tracks is the only way. It might be easier to just create PNG files in Photoshop as some have suggested.
