tga transparency

Hi
I'm rendering out tga files from the 3D software 3dsmax and taking them into Vegas, but I'm not getting the alpha channel. The tga's are 32 bit, and I know the alpha channel is there because I can see it in other software. Why is this? What are the requirements for using tga alpha in Vegas? PNG works fine, by the way, and the transparency is there in Vegas.
Thanks
Mark

Hi,

With the clip in the timeline, rightclick it, go to "properties" / "media". You have the box in the bottom to select the alpha channel associated to the clip.

If this doesn't work, here is another solution, as I also encountered this kind of problem once. I did all of this, but couldn't STILL use the alpha channel. The solution: my .tga file was a CMYK color file instead of a RGB color file. I resaved it in RGB mode and voilà!

Hope this helps.

Why not stick to PNG ?

Great. Thanks, the properties settings did the trick. I work with tga because that's the format I usually have to hand over to the customer. PNG adds an extra conversion step that takes up time when there are thousands of frames to do.
Thanks
