Okay, I just discovered this thread:

So ... is the current best advice to actually use this >2GB switch or not? Any downside? I'm running VMS10 / Win 7 64bit / 12GB / i7930 / AVCHD / Canon Vixia. My system is actually working great (if it ain't broke ...), but I am wondering if this RAM hack will make it run even better? Would it have any effect on render speed? I suspect NOT since render speed is, as I understand it, based on CPU speed, not RAM allocation. Thanks in advance for your advice!!!

Depends. There's no apparent downside. It won't increase render speed. If you don't need to render more than about 30 mins of AVCHD, you probably don't need the hack.

Well, typically I render 1.5 hour concert videos...
