Thank You Tom Pauncz! DVDA Linking!

And jrazz for hastling it with me too. Thanks!!

OK:

1] 28 Scenes in a "Scene Selection" Menu

2] DVDA suggests too many for a single Scene Page, of course, and use 18 tops for a 16x9

3] I insert new page and split-off 14 and paste into page 2 (BTW this is still far far too many - I will redesign this anyway)

4] I then get told, during "Prepare", by DVDA, I have an "orphaned-page" - page 2.

5] OK, I need to make a link . . . . er . . . ?

After searching help files on links and scene selection and scratching head and futzing about I SKYPE my chums and Tom suggests I insert a button on Page1 and make the links - too obvious! Of course it works.

OK, I came away with 2 observations:

A] Auto Insert: Why didn't DVDA, by default MAKE an automatic link from Page1 to Page2 for me? At least, when it says "orphan" why not then go ahead and suggest I insert a link. But this way I was left kinda dangling.

B] Right Click Insert: Working in DVDA which in a sense, IMHO, IS a graphic design environment allow for a Right-Click Insert Link option? There are "other" insert options, I think this would be useful, as I am already primed AS a working graphically.

Look, these are my reactions/thoughts on what is an AMAZING piece of software. So often DVDA just does what I'd expect it to do (Maybe there's a clue here? Managing my expectations?), and in the simplest of ways too. Added to which, I also like the user friendly responses it gave when it informed me I HAD an orphaned page. Terrific!

I wanted to air my A] and B] above to possibly get your thoughts on whether this would be something that SONY might consider or think viable? - That, and thanking Tom too!

Grazie

If you select a rational number of scenes per page when you ask DVDA to create the pages it all works as smooth as silk.

A] You just created a page. DVDA has no way of knowing you wanted a link to that page from the current page.

B] I guess but there's so many ways you can do this hard to see if that'd be a big help.

DVDs are confusing things with a complex interaction of graphics, video and software via scripts. DVDA does a good job of trying to keep it simple. In some respects though this can be a bad thing as users get the wrong expectation.
DVD Studio Pro has much better tools from my brief brush with it, you can switch on a flow chart view which makes complex menus very easy to design and understand. Doing them in DVDA is a nightmare.

I learned something yesterday thanks to Grazie via Tom. I have always just started over if I messed up the scene selection as I did not know of a way to do it. This is a great way to save yourself a lot of hassle to get it done.

THANKS!

I guess that if you really get to understand DVDA, the way it creates menu pages and all is OK. But I got tired of DVDA chaning things on me without asking, so now I create all my menu backgrounds and text in Photoshop, and manually add buttons in DVDA and link them up, set highlighting, etc., the way I want. It may take a little longer, but at least I have complete control over what's going on.

That beings said, I suppose that if I was doing traditonal "chapter selection" menus with 30+ chapters I might want a more automation in the process.
