The best codec for cd-rom???

What's the best video codec for cd-rom? I'm thinking cinepak, in that the cd-rom will play on almost all machines, no? It must be in quicktime format (for DirectorMX). Also, in the audio codec option I can't seem to choose mp3 codec, it has all these other audio compression formats that I am unfamiliar with. The CD MUST be able to play on older machines and with minimum fuss(ie codec d/l etc).
Thx for any help!

Generally for Director &/or Flash I've seen/read that most folks use Squeeze and/or the Sorrenson codec - the decoder will be installed with quicktime. And, regardless anything else, quicktime will have to be installed for playback if you're rendering quicktime files.

True, cinepak is on almost all windows machines, but for avi, not mov. You might want to include a routine to check for complience & install quictime (or whatever codec if you use something other then Director) as necessary, including the install files on the CD - the full Quicktime distribution is available and only around 10 - 12 meg I think, but you should check out their redistribution docs etc. to make sure everyone's happy.

Mpeg-1 will play on just about any PC.
624X384 seems to be a good compromise for size and quality.

For Director MX, the video must be in quicktime format.....So what's the best one to use for quicktime? Also, any answer to the audio codec problem?
