The boxes are in...

Got my hard copy of Vegas 7 + DVDA 4 via UPS yesterday. Instead of plastic-wrapped like all the past upgrades, I got the display box with all the nifty contents (and the keyboard command cards which is mainly why I went for the extra $15). For those who downloaded and might want or need the CDs in the future, note that (1) both V7 and DVDA4, with all additional software, now come combined on a single DVD, and (2) the serial numbers are no longer on the first page of the manuals, but on a bright orange sticker on the disc envelope.

Odd thing too--my box had 68 Cinescore serial numbers in it. :( )

Old woman went to lawyers office to have some papers made up.
Woman asked how much she owed the lawyer. He said $100 dollars.
She paid him and left. He counted the money again and found she had
given him two one hundred dollar bills.

The lawyer was faced with a moral delema......should he tell his partners!

You should share some serials with those of who have none LOL.

Got my Cinescore Box and 2 themes, but no V7 optional shipped components (Keyboard card! I want my keyboard card!)

Also, after seeing the Cineform manual, does anyone else need magnifying glasses to read it? Fonts/images too small, compared to previous SMS product manuals. It is much more comprehensive that the standard Vegas/DVDA manuals though.

Now if I can only read it...

What delema? The lawyer told his partners that the old woman checking account lacks funds, so he took the only money she had in her purse, which was $20 and told her to come back with $80 if she wanted her legal work finished. No old woman was going to hustle this law firm!

I just had to respond.

I ordered Cinescore with my Vegas Download, along with the $15 extra items. I thought these extra items would come in a plastic bag (like the last time I ordered the "box").

Instead, I got the complete box for everything--Cinescore, the extra sound boxes and my first actual Vegas box! (My first upgrade from Video Factory to Vegas was with the 3.0 release and I got a zip lock bag).

What a wonderful surprise!! Good move Sony!

One unusual thing:

My Vegas+ DVD shipped with a different set of serial numbers (on the CD's) than the version I downloaded (and that is listed on the Sony site). How is that going to work? I assume I should use the one from the site, since it is permantly recorded.

I wonder what Sony prefers. What should I do with the extras? ;-)

By the way, I have still never received my e-mail upgrade. Strange, consider I have ACID 4, 6, Batch Converter, CD Arhitect, DVD Architect 1, 2,3, Noise Reduction, Sound forge 6, 8, etc. and have darn near upgraded to everything--plus I get their e-mails and their catalogs.

Someone hasn't tapped all the way into the existing user's e-mail database yet.

I never saw the email upgrade offer either, got the information from a forum poster.

Assuming you're only paying for the boxed shipment of course, I note that the downloaded trial, unlike the earlier upgrade method, is distinctly named the Vegas 7-Trial download. I uninstalled the trial completely before installing the software on the DVD.

P.S. I agree with Chanimal--little things can mean a lot. That grey box made me feel special. And it's, well, purty.

I too am slightly confused.
For the first time ever I bought the box and yes I am very pleased to get the box.
However I'm assuming that those serial numbers will not appear in My Account until I register them.
Wouldn't it be a simple task to have the boxed versions registered as they're shipped so that the serial numbers are immediately available.

What surprised me was that even the trial version, this time, automatically calls the internet and registers itself on first use.

Well Madison has caught up on inventory of Cineform and theme packs. But they are out of stock of Vegas 7. Good thing it's a hard copy to my download. For all the complaining a lot of folks must be upgrading.

farss, i would imagine that the reason that "boxed" serial numbers are not automatically registered is because the purchaser isn't always the user. I've purchased a few boxes from SONY (actually Sonic Foundry at the time) to give to other people. It would have been a pain if they had been registered to me automatically.

In a corporate situation the purchase is usually done by a purchasing department which doesn't even know what the software is, much less uses it. It gets distributed to the employees who will then register it. True, it will often end up being registered by the corporation, but in many cases the company gives the licenses to the employees as a perq, along with a laptop, etc. In those cases it will be registered in the employee's name rather than the purchaser's name.
