The data is invalid (?????) Dazzle Bridge.

Really nothing to do with Vegas, but since I've gotten such great advice, I might as well try again.

I hit a big Window XP problem that re-verted me back to Win 2000. I have everyting up and running except for capturing. When going into the Video Capture I keep getting that Unable to connect to device. I don't use this device anywhere else but for Vegas. The device is a Dazzle Hollywood Bridge, which is basically a converter for analog input and outputs thru firewire which is correctly connected to my on-board pc OCHI compliant port.

When I first pluged it in, Win needed to install this device, and the only driver it needs is the normal generic MSDV.INF which gets installed with the OS. The driver was found in the INF directory, but when trying to install it I get the error "Device not installed, the data is invalid".

I'm hoping there are some people in here with the Dazzle, and can shed some light on what/where drivers I can install. The Dazzle I purchased did not come with drivers since it's the generic Windows, found in all Win CD's.

(This device was working properly with XP, and I followed teh same routine..and the MSDV.INF was located in the Windows directory and installed properly).

The Dazzle help desk was not very helpful.

Thanks.

DHB here. Having the DHB plugged in and the firewire plugs and connections in place >> I've found that sometimes I need to pull out the power supply, hold in the small reset button, plug back in the power supply, wait for all three lcds flash on RED and then off and then release the reset button - works for me! Don't know if it will get you through the night . . .but then it might - yeah?

Tried that, and nothing happened..do you know what drivers they are looking for?

I've had my Hollywood Bridge since I had a VAIO running Windows ME, and now a Dell running XP Home. Don't recall having to install special drivers, but there is a forum in the support section of Dazzle worth doing a search on.

One thing I will advise--the Bridge only works right if it's switched on and running BEFORE powering on the computer. If it gets confused--power everything off, including the Bridge, and start up again, Bridge first. On first use with Windows ME I remember having to disable or delete the MS driver and forcing a reinstall with the Bridge not only plugged in, but connected to a camera which is also switched on and feeding it a signal through its A/V cable. The computer has to think it's dealing with a DV camera.

Thanks. I tried the Dazzle forum and it hasn't helped. Yes the unit was on. What I am having problem is installing the device...Win 2000 detects it, finds the driver but I get this error "The data is invalid".

Thanks

After logging roughly 95 hours in about 1 week, I finally found the problem. After checking the REGEDT32 and setting security OFF to the PCI slots (in system), I still had the problem...started to trace the MSDV.INF and found that the windows codec was not installed. I went to Service Pack 3 to re-load the codec...after that Vegas started complaining about a qcap.dll when I went into capturing...so I just did a search on that file name in my drive (which it found) and dumped it into system32 directory.

So far everything looks fine, except for me, I'm sooooo burnt!!

Hey Grazie, wanna treat me to some great canadian beer? ...and yes the women here are all models.

My dear boy! I hail from the land of flat, warm ale - well we call it bitter - and bitter it is - don't yer know? Hate to dissuade of the Maple Leaf connotation you appear to have give me . . . but yes! Next time you're passing through Blightey - be my pleasure.

Hey, what you achieved with your pc and the DHB went way over my head - you're too good!!!

Best regards,
