Ok, when I render a project that is about 4 minutes long, as a avi, mov, and so on... it comes out to be, about 200MB with all crappy, low settings. And it comes out to be about 800MB with ok, fairly good settings. any help here would be hot.
Video quality and file size pull in opposite directions. The better the quality the higher the bitrate or less compression used. Compression reduces quality, but results in smaller file sizes. You really need to experiment and pick a template that suits your needs. If you're planning on burning to CD's then your choices are more limited. However if you just want good quality and reasonable file sizes one almost forgotten template that don't get much attention in the forums is the RM template. I've been VERY pleased, provided you select either 1MBPS or 3MBPS rendering. The lower bitrates will have heavy artifacting. For storage (not playable on a DVD player) you can still get around 40-45 minutes on a single CD. Such files play fine off a CD using the FREE RM player from Real.com
