What if anything is covered not already covered in the manual?

I was also wondering how much SoFo charges to ADVERTISE in the forum.

I like the announcements (advertising) of things that will directly benefit me in this particular venue and field.
My question - and it's not a very fair one - is how different from Spotted Eagle's Class On Demand series is this DVD set? I own DSE's package, but would not be adverse to spending the extra $50.00 IF there is significant value. -mjr

Thank you, Sonic Foundry' Forum for making it possible for new users to hear about 3rd party DVD's and tapes which make it easy for them to grasp Vegas. Yes, all of the info is probably in the manual, but a video display is more helpful for some, myself in particular.

I have both Spotted Eagle's and Gary's videos, and found them complementary. I'm new to Vegas, and actually found Gary's a bit more useful in describing editing techniques. Definitely worth the fifty bucks.

Gary's DVDs are great! It's like having a private teacher in your own workspace. He explains the what, why and how very clearly.
It doesn't matter if you own VV2 or 3 or 4 you'll learn a lot from these DVDs. I did and I've been using Vegas for about two years.
Some people learn from reading manuals...not me. I'd rather have someone walk me through the basics and then build on them like Gary does.
Thanks to SoFo for encouraging training in their Forums.

Hmmm, a DVD learning guide at a little more than 1/3 the price of the Class on Demand DVD set (now at $130). Sounds good.
Also costs only a little more than DSE's forthcoming book.
Decisions, decisions.

Gary, what can I expect as far as shipping to Canada? I know it's $8.50 for shipping, but how many days for delivery and such? Who pays for the duty charges?
When I order from SoFo, they tell me it'll cost so much and that's it, no hidden charges or anything. I receive my parcel as if it had been sent from the next city. Is your delivery as "seamless"?

Thank you for producing this. I may or may not learn anything new. However, I am trying to teach my wife and one of my son's how to use Vegas for their own projects and don't have the patience--this will help. The more support material the better.

I also ordered Excaliber and the Wedding video--at $28, I only have to learn one tip to make it worth while in my projects.

Thanks again.

Gary,

I have a few questions about the Excalibur offer. Is the printed manual in color? Is the PDF manual in color? Is the PDF on the CD?

Also, please explain the "Direct E-mail with .pdf manual and .NetFramework" delivery option. I understand downloads, but this seems different.

Thank you,

Seeker

We ship via the mail. Canadian-bound packages seem to be getting there in a timely manner (a few days to a week). You pay the duty charges.

Thanks,
Gary

To seeker:

The Excalibur manual does have some color, but none of any real consequence.

Re:"Direct E-mail with .pdf manual and .NetFramework" delivery option:

That's a mistake on the site (thanks for finding that). .Net framework comes with the Excalibur CD only. The e-mail version is just that; it is e-mailed to you as an attachment.

Gary

I'm now using Excalibur. Prior to installing Excalibur I had install .NET and the newer version from MS. I went with the e-mail version, London UK here, Excalibur installed and works, so far, without a hitch - operator issues, yes - software issues, no!

I recieved Gary's video here in the U.K. only five working day's after my order. I also have DSE's class on demand and have found them both to be useful, Gary's has more useful tips on shortcuts and screen layout etc, and the disc is chaptered better, also at a third of the cost it represents great value. Ok so much of the information is in the manual but I find that the manual falls short of the info I really want, also some of us understand much more from a visual reference. I don't know about you but sometimes I read a manual and immediatley find I haven't understood a word. So both these products come highly reccomended.

pjam,

I agree completely. In fact, in my opinion, major software creators are crazy if they don't include this level of product as part of their user manuals in future.
We users are going to be using Vegas or whatever on our desktops, so the best possible way to learn how to use it is by having us see the "live" desktop and listening to a knowledgeable voice using it.

Whilst on the subject, I am still amazed that a Licenced "LE" type version of Vegas called Video Explosion, marketed by Nova here in Australia, has a superb multimedia tutorial included, yet the full blown Vegas doesn't.

I received my DVD's from Mobile Pro Video last week. I don't have Spotted Eagles but this is worth the money I spent. It is informative in a casual way without being to technical. It's visual and hand on and I learned a few things I wasn't sure of and found out many area I was in fact using it correctly but not neccesarily in the easiest or fastest manor. I think it's worth the minimal price even if you only learn some of the shortcuts.

Have a good day!

"...so the best possible way to learn how to use it is by having us see the "live" desktop and listening to a knowledgeable voice using it."

Sonic Foundry had started that with the Sound Forge 6.0 tutorials available on this site. Whether or not it continues is up to SoFo/Sony. Then again, maybe SoFo had already decided not to make a tutorial for Vegas. They would be hurting the sales of the 3rd party tutorials.
Maybe that's a good thing. SoFo concentrates on other things and we benefit from a variety of more detailed tutorials at reasonable prices.

Yeah - good point. I buy them all - there's always something new to learn.

Hey "Chanimal". Did you say that you got BOTH Excalibur AND the Wedding video for $28? If so, how'd you do that?

Sorry,

My mistake. $28 was just for the wedding video tape.
