I have a one hour long "mix", consisting of dozens of WAV
files. When I attempt to "Render as" and use the WAV
format, I consistenly get the following error message
anywhere between 40% and 99% completion:

An error occurred while creating the media "My
session.wav". Unable to mix audio. The operation timed
out.

Why is this occuring, and what can I do to stop the error?
