Just got a new JVC SR-VS30U deck today. It is a dual DV/S-VHS combo device, and I highly recommend it for anyone working with DV footage in Vegas. It is an "all in one" solution for the Vegas user.
With this deck, you don't need any other DV cards or hardware. It acts not only as a DV VTR, but provides live FireWire in/out for any analog source you can hook up to it. In that sense, it works as a great analog to DV capture device, escpecially considering the unit has a built-in TBC too!
Here are all the things I've been able to do with it:
1. Capture/record to DV via FireWire
2. Capture/record to VHS/S-VHS via FireWire
3. Capture live TV/Cable via FireWire
4. Capture/record to Betacam via FireWire by passing Betacam through the JVC via S-Video connector
5. Live preview from the Vegas timeline on external monitor via FireWire
For only $800, its only slightly more expensive than IEEE 1394 cards that have analog inputs and outputs. But the JVC deck has much more features, and even plays back DVCAM tapes (as long as they are in the MiniDV cassettes).
There is also a cheaper version of the deck, the SR-VS3U. It appears to be identical to the SR-VS30U but without DVCAM support, and you can find it on the internet for about $650.
Really good deal, and very handy to have. Works with Vegas like a champ.

BTW, I don't work for JVC or have any affiliation to them.
