The Trimmer

In scanning old plsts I viewed #77 "Is Timeline The Only View Available?", which really has more to do with the Trimmer. I installed the Trimmer and used it a few times but I could see no real advantage over trimming on the timeline except for cutting out sections from a very long clip. Besides, the timeline has a time clock on the screen which I find very useful.

Am I missing something that can be helpful??

Some people use the trimmer as well as timeline as the latter has 4 frames per 1, as opposed to the former where frames are 1 to 1, so you can be more accurate using trimmer. It's also good for other things; zooming, adding b/g colours, adding effects and using dfferent angles. I do most of my work on the timeline, mostly using left-click, right-clck, and used in conjunction with certain keys.

laz, i don't understand what you mean by "4 frames per 1 ...". Are you referring to having the arrow keys advance 4 frames on the timeline with each press? If so, this is affected by the zoom level. If you zoom in closer then the arrow keys will eventually move by single frames. If you zoom out farther then the arrow keys will move by larger amounts of frames. Also, at any zoom level, Alt-left & right arrows will always move by single frames.

The same thing applies to the trimmer window.

Iaz, I'm confused. If you zoom in on the Timeline you can change the scale to show single frames making editing to the frame possible or am I not understanding your comment?

And, I don't get your comment about "adding big ccolors, adding effects and using different angles". Wouldn't you do all of this on the Video Overlay track?

Chienworks,
The Alt + arrow keys is a big help! Thanks for the tip.

Sorry, it's my fault for not calling things by their proper names. I always call the pan and crop the trimmer as that's what I use for more exact frame trimming and positioning (I think there's a similar tool in S8 called trimmer). And it's from the pan and crop where you can add coloured backgrounds etc. I also got mixed up with the 4 frames ratio. I think I've used a another prog being able to chop up to 4 frames down to 1 frame in one go.

One shouldn't mix computing with a glass of wine (and don't tell the wife).

BTW I always sing the praises of VF etc and this forum on other forums.

happy easter?? I think you must have had the whole bottle!

I like the trimmer. Probably because I am used to similar things in other applications, and when I try and trip on the timeline I don't really know what I am doing and sometimes stuff up my whole project.
