I asked my daughter to "explain" this to me. She says it's Apple and Intel joining and the ad was based on Star Wars but it has no meaning or real purpose. I'm still confused.
With Apple and MS long enemies why did Apple not go with AMD?
Have to ask Apple and Intel that.
From Macworld today:
New Desktop:
10:15 am Two cores. each one faster than the G5.
10:14 am Intel Core Duo. an amazing chip.
10:14 am Intel Processor. 2-3x faster than the iMac G5.
10:14 am Same sizes. 17", 20". Same design. Same features (isight, front row, apple remote), Same price. What's different.
10:13 am No other desktop PC can match it.
New Laptop. Now this sounds cool:
10:32 am Fastest notebook ever.
10:31 am 4-5x faster.
10:31 am 2 processors in every Macbook pro.
10:31 am No more Powerbook. Intel duo Core.
10:30 am New laptop computer.
10:30 am Today - MacBook Pro
10:30 am But power consuption. Now discussing Peformance per Watt.
10:29 am Showing a Powerbook G4. Trying to shoehorn a G5 into the Powerbook. We've done everyhing possible...
10:29 am "One More Thing..."
the purpose is this: Steve Jobs is the owner of Apple (and is the face being covered by the Darth Vader Helmet. Then the Intel logos are on the helmet, and an intel processor where his "box" should be. The statement about Power PC is based on the fact that Power PC is the proccessor MAC's used before this. and now they use Intel chips.
"With Apple and MS long enemies why did Apple not go with AMD?"
Because that would have been the intelligent thing to do - hell - I would have considered switching if they had made that move... as it is - its the same old second-tier solution.
But honestly - it's probably related to fulfillment/manufacturing capacity, which AMD says they're tapped as it is... I guess we'll see now that Dell is planning to add AMD to their PC lines.
It's more likely that when Apple started working on replacing their PowerMacs, AMD didn't have anything hot to offer.
I know for myself that even I wasn't even considering touching AMD's old processors with a 3.05 meter pole, due to a) the lack of any performance advantage, and b) their lack of any peripheral CPU support other than from VIA, maker of famously buggy chips. But that was the past.
Now it's intel's turn to be pariah performance wise, but at least their chips work properly nowadays (it wasn't always so...).
I thought Intel would be able to catch up to AMD by next year (2007), but specialists who have been right in the past say 2009 is more likely. Wow.
Yeah.. your changes in the video actually make the story compelling. I would have liked to see the birth of the procs though.... "Core".... "Duo"....... then their mother closes her eyes....
yea - we thought about something like that but it gets long, and we weren't sure if we wanted something all too long - but that Core, Duo, is a pretty good idea - Very Nice - Might have use that if we'd have thought of it. :)
It's getting picked up on mac sites all over - there's some place in Sweden that's got it up, and maclive.net has it too. It was featured on Gizmodo.com, and he's offered some help for more stuff like this. my cousin has been coming up with some more ideas, while I've got some work that I need to get done, done.
