There was a time when video editing was carried out successful on PC running well below the entry level PC of today.

18months ago I up graded to a P3 400 with two disk drives total of 16gb and 256 ram. It is only lastly that I have ventured onto video editing and I’m now being told that I need at lest P3 700 to edit video. I am sure that there must be people who are doing it on less. It would be great to know how they do it. I’m also would like to know more about DMA and how to set it up.

I think VF is a great program I would just like to get it up and running.

I am using a PI400, 128mbs of RAM and 10 gigs of storage- doing DV video editing is no problem with this fairly lightweight system. Faster is always better, but your existing setup should work fine.

Different programs have different requirements too. There is probably not one configuration that would work well with every program. Video Factory requires at least a 400MHz processor, but faster is always better.

Also - you can enable DMA in Windows 98 by doing the following:

-Right click on 'My Computer' and select properties.

-Click on the device manager tab and expand 'Disk Drives'.

-Right click on your hard drive and select properties.

-Go to the 'Settings' tab and check the 'Enable DMA' checkbox. You'll then be prompted to restart.
