Think of it as Magix Vegas 1.0

Lets face it: Sony Vegas is dead. Version 13 is the end of the line. I believe we can all save ourselves a great deal of angst by looking at the so-called Vegas 14 in a different light, looking at the recent release as Magix Vegas 1.0

Like any first generation software, it has lots of bugs and lacks many features that longtime editors look for and need for their work. Having been involved with software development since 1979, I've learned not to expect too much of first generation programs. Vegas 13 is stable (usually) and serves our needs (mostly.) It supports the scripts which have been developed over more than a decade and interfaces with several other programs which many of us use daily.

Whether Magix Vegas will evolve into a program that exceeds the hopes and expectations of Sony Vegas users remains to be seen. But it appears that no amount of weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth is going to make a difference at the moment. As my kids say: "It is what it is."

I'm on my way back to my editing desk and Vegas 13 until I see a change.

Yes, it is what it is, but it's not what it should 😟

Like any first generation software,

Well, it's not a first generation software at all but I would agree that it must be extremely difficult to decipher and make adjustments to it.

My issue is not with VP14 per say but with the way a long time user has been treated with all the missleading marketing that was/is going on.

I have mixed thoughts about the current situation. I had stated in another post that v14 does not provide any advantage for me over v13 and its price point is too high for what new features are in the release. As such, I am staying with v13 until I see a future release (i.e. v15) that I feel is a worthwhile purchase. At the same time, I realize that the acquisition of software and personnel from Sony occurred just a few months ago, making this first Magix release a real challenge for the new owners. However, if I do not see a really strong Vegas release from Magix in the next version, I will simply keep using v13 and make the switch to another editor if I see advantages in doing so. These days high-end editors are more-or-less similar with some being easier to use than others. I am not at all adverse to learning a different workflow paradigm, as I have absolutely no emotional attachment to any software package. As far as I am concerned, they are just tools to solve problems and multiple tools are a necessity in this field.

I bought the upgrade from V13 to Magix V14 Pro.  Part of my reasoning was to support Magix and help them fund the future of Vegas.  I didn't expect a significant change, they just completed the purchase a few months ago.  I hope V15 is a huge upgrade.

Good reasoning but I have done that since VP7, others even longer and all I got is a slap in the face. As they say " Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me".

i agree wholeheartedly with all the comments re pricing - and as i've written elsewhere, the whole release has been nothing but a marketing disaster, from pricing through to releasing a more or less useless version that simply doesn't function properly, especially with plugins that many users depend on.

i'm presuming magix isn't really interested in the existing user base, as oldsmoke wrote, all we got was a slap in the face.

i'm sure magix is hoping to appeal to a new generation of editors who don't know enough to realise where vegas came from and how it's been 'downgraded', that there is a wealth of free nle's that are equally if not more 'professionally' orientated, and that you really don't need any of them to turn out crap you could with mm2 ;-)

i'm sure, like vegas under scs, they'll be cracked versions abounding, but with magix's disregard of the existing user base their bottom line will be significantly reduced by a generation used to piracy and lack of understanding that paying for software keeps it alive and developing.
