Thinking of Buying Vegas Pro; SHould I get it know or wait for VP19

KeithH wrote on 5/11/2021, 4:00 PM

Hi everyone. I am currently doing a trial of Vegas Pro Post Suite. I am liking it. I am new to editing other than an old Corel VideoStudio I have. I wanted something with potential to grow into but still be somewhat easy to learn. I am doing a trial of Vegas Pro Post Suite but really just playing with the main Vegas Pro program; I am also doing a trial of Video Pro X. I like both but I feel like Vegas Pro has way more tutorials on YouTube should I need a question answered.

So my question is, if I buy Vegas Pro or Vegas Post Suite, should I get it now, or should I wait for the next version to come out. It looks like they always release the next version in a few months; however, there is a big sale going on the Vegas software right now. (I don't know if they go back to regular prices when the new version comes out, is why I'm asking)

Thanks for your thoughts and advice

According to rumor there's a ProRes Raw update coming to Vegas Pro 18 some time in the future, so that is something to look forward to.

Not sure if they have any plans to make a whole new version, 19, just yet.

My advice is to get Vegas Pro 16 Edit here for $30:

Ends in 1 day

As a registered owner of Vegas Pro 16 you then qualify for upgrade pricing on any of the current versions of Vegas Pro, this saves you more than $30. In previous years, new version of Vegas Pro often came out in August with an offer for a month before of "buy current version now, get next one free upon release". IIRC at least one year Suite version was delayed a few weeks beyond August

U always worry about the humble bumble deals. I’ve heard horror stories. They got me. I download the vegas pro and every time I open the program they tell me I have a special offer to upgrade to post for $350. Same with video pro x they say $150 (I’m trying both trials now. But when you put it in cart I don’t qualify. for the price advertised.

do u have forst hand knowledge if I get one of those humble bumble deals and upgrade by Magix it will be honored? I just want a good program I can grow into. But they getting expensive compared to Davinci
Heck I’d buy a cheap lower program. For under a hundred from them. Just to upgrade. But can’t find how that works online. I tried Davinci and it’s like fusion369 in the cad while way great and better than most but deficient for some they work it out as u go. (Unless u know cad programs it’s the same model. But I do like the program and want to just get to it but reduce to pay crazy prices)

Humble Bumble works and yes, it will be honored.

Post includes Image and Effects, so not surprisingly that is an upsale over Vegas Pro Edit. You can disable the newsfeed in preferences if you don't want these sales.

Thank for the reply. Ok I’m going to eat on it for a nap. (Btw I like the sales if they didn’t make me think I could get the programs for much cheaper every time I opened the program. Tested it last night and nope I didn’t qualify but I do qualify for other Magix deals. They just made me feel I could get lost for $350 or video pro x for 150.

obviously I was wrong. So I have to get my pennies together

I don't understand why you don't qualify. Because you are on a trial version? With the real version if you click through you should qualify as you'll have a serial #.

"You can upgrade at a reduced price with a previous version or other authorized product. Please have your login details or serial number ready."

You can also see the latest sales/pricing on the Vegas Pro website. There have been a variety of offers this year and I expect there will be more. Yes, prices will likely be higher when 19 comes out (mid summer?) and you'd have to wait a while longer for a sale on that.

Yeah basically I downloaded the trial of vegas pro and it offers me every time I open it a “special upgrade to Post suite for $350.

I am also doing a trial for video pro x because I can’t find out much online between them and every time I open that program it offers me a special upgrade offer for 149. Basically 150. Last I spent the weekend trying g them to find out I didn’t “ qualify “ for the upgrade price. I get it. I own designer products x and not a video program. . But I spent a while googling if I blight the cheap consumer version if that would help but could find much

RogerS wrote on 5/11/2021, 10:35 PM

I only know the Vegas product line but if you own any of them (including Movie Studio) you can upgrade. I came to Pro from Movie Studio myself. I guess the trial version isn't smart enough to know it doesn't have a proper serial number.

KeithH wrote on 5/11/2021, 10:48 PM

Ok edit. No I’ve never had a Magix movie program. I owned cars when it was owned passages on . Like the program. I lost my credential so bought a Magix program for designer pro x. . But no movie programs .

Thanks Roger.

Something as major as raw format support would probably come with a new version, since supporting those formats will require a lot of tinkering under the hood to get good playback speeds and fully support the metadata.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

I'm not sure which rumors you're hearing, but officially there has been no announcement as to when RAW support will be included. Maybe we'll get better clarification closer to launch of the next version.

I've had Vegas Pro since 2009 when it was with Sony and it was on special offer then (a physical product via Amazon UK).

Since then both as Sony and more latterly as Magix there have been frequent special offers both for the initial purchase by a new client and for various upgrades.

I've stayed with the Pro version rather than Edit or 365 or the other versions as Pro meets all my needs.

Occasionally I've skipped an upgrade that was of little interest to me but offers included a jump of two versions without an extra cost.

For my use version 18 was a major improvement over 17 so I got that in Jan 2021. It included Sound Forge Pro 14 (as did v.17). The upgrade cost at UK£199 was higher than previous but not a deal breaker.

I'm not aware of any major improvements for a v.19 that would be important for users other than those needing some quite high-end sophisticated editing on high-end hardware so I'd go for 18 straight away rather than lose your trial period.

Da Vinci tempts because of the free version but sooner or later you'll probably find you'd need to buy their paid-for version. Da Vinci also has a reputation for needing powerful hardware - maybe more so than Vegas - so that may be relevant for you.

First, the Humble Bundle (ends today) is real. I started a few years back with a Humble Bundle of VP14 Edit. After using Vegas for 2 weeks, I upgraded to (at that time) VP15Suite, with the upgrade price, and haven't looked back. Now, on VP18.

For $30, you will get to use the full version and get an idea of how the software edits. That hasn't changed much. What has changed between 16 and 18 are the features, and some user interface tweaks. But for sheer editing, not really a change.

And as others have posted, you will get the upgrade price if you decide to go for VP19 (or Post) when it's released. If the features of VP19 don't appeal to you, you can continue to edit without restrictions with VP16.

While VP16 doesn't have all the built in templates and automation of say VideoStudio Pro (which I have), for sheer editing, nothing that I have (including Video Pro X) can touch it.
