Thinking of upgrading you might want to hold off for 2 -3 months

P4 Prescott SSE3 with 13 new instructions (primarily aimed at Video and audio encoding) and better HT implementation!

We will see how much of this will make a difference for video but I think it will probably fly when it does come out.

PS you might want to take a second mortgage on your house out when it does arive though ;-)

Here's a skeptical view:

The big question is how much advantage will future apps take of the new instructions.

Well, it doesn't really matter when you hold off until, because a slightly faster processor speed will usually come out every once and a while over the course of a year. So If you keep holding off for a better product, you'll never get a PC. There comes a time when you just have to accept that fact and go out to the store.

There's always something good to wait for. Faster SATA, PCI Express, Prescott, etc. Buy when you actually need something and plan to upgrade systems on a regular basis.

Personally, if you don't need a system right now I'd wait for the next rev of Vegas and then decide what I really want.

Also, I'd wait for prescott to get past the bleeding edge anyway.
