Kelly is right. Since Vegas doesn’t appear in the forum name there have been a number of posts over in the Vegas forum and some times we don’t even realize they are talking about VMS (heck, sometimes they don’t realize they are using VMS!) and we tell them to do things that aren’t possible with their version which just confuses and frustrates them more. A forum name change is a good idea.

I agree. This newbie has been confused by the posts for the wrong version.

Former SVMS+DVD version 4, current SVMS + DVD Platinum version 6 user (Sony Vegas Movie Studio +DVD). Although it may be an extra step - perhaps if everyone just noted their version in their question it would alleviate most confusion? The other option would be to have a unique forum for each particular software and the release version. That would fatten up these forums (a courtesy of Sony) in a hurry. Seeing how Sony makes money providing tech services they are probably inclined to keep it simple. I am grateful for these forums and I think for people who really want an answer without paying a professional to specifically address their concern - they can find help here. Given enough time I believe one can get beyond the confusion if there is any.

Chienworks, good idea on the name change to "Vegas Movie Studio/VideoFactory", it's probably something a lot of us already thought about but just never came out and said it.

Also, what is VideoFactory? I'm assuming it's what SVMS used to be called? If it's old with not many users, I'd just call the forum "Vegas Movie Studio".

Regardless, I'm glad I found Vegas!!

VideoFactory was the name of versions 1 and 2. Version 2 was also marketed by SONY as "Screenblast Movie Studio". When version 3 came out SONY called it "Screenblast Movie Studio 2" and Sonic Foundry renamed it to "Movie Studio 3". I seem to recall version 4 originally named Movie Studio as well, then shorly thereafter "Vegas" got tacked on the front. So, as far as names go. this product has had a rather tortuous history.

It would really be handy if all the products were named similarly, such as Vegas Pro/Vegas Studio, SoundForge Pro/SoundForge Studio, ACID Pro/ACID Studio. That would save a lot of confusion.

Just to bring up a point again I made in the "Pinnacle switchers" thread, since Sony apparently doesn't mind renaming things, Sony should rename Vegas Movie Studio to something that doesn't have the word STUDIO in it as to not possibly confuse people with Pinnacle STUDIO.

:)

My 2 cents.

Good point. Maybe they should take a page from Microsoft and name them Vegas Pro / Vegas Home. ;)
