thorny video corruption

I have a bunch of video clips in a project that have decided to scramble and play the wrong files. I have an approach for fixing this, I think (at least it worked before), but have a couple of questions:

1. Has Sony come up with a means for replacing the media in a particular clip short of renaming the file that's wrong and forcing the software to ask for a new file?

2. Is there any way to discern in the clip what the start/stop points in the file are?

I ask these questions in an effort to identify exactly what part of the file a particular event is supposed to play back if I am not able to "fool" the software into fixing the corruption by the usual methods.

All help welcomed and appreciated!

What version of Vegas?

Oops, sorry. Version 11 64 bit. I've had this happen since version 9.

I fixed the problem this evening but would still appreciate any tips.

I analyzed some of what files were confused and first tried to fix them by renaming a couple of key video files and forcing Vegas to ask me for new names. This initially seemed to work fine but there was a spot with events that should have been calling separate files, but they were all calling the same file. So that didn't work out. Ultimately I split the project into three separate projects and fixed them individually. As a last step I made a new project and pasted the pieces back in. For now, it's fine. Of course, it's anyone's guess whether it will stay that way...

This was the first time I've seen Vegas completely lose track of all the information in an event as opposed to simply referring to the wrong file. I had two video events that were empty - no properties - and their associated audio was a meaningless wave file.
