Hey. First of all, kudos on an amazing program!
Idea... how about a phase reverse button on the channel strips... that would be awesome, and surely not too hard to implement... it's a pain having to load a plugin for that... it'd make mixing a bit quicker 2.
in the media pool, you really need an option to properly delete all of the unused media items, instead of just clear them from the list! At the moment I have to save the project somewhere else, copying all used media with it, and then delete the old folder... seems like unecessary hassle for clearing disk space!
Also... really nice limiters on every buss would be great... something like timeworks mastering compressor. Just to protect from clipping... not actually squashing anything.
On envelope edits, how about an option of inserting two points at the same time, fairly close together - I have to do that all the time, so it would speed things up!
of course motorised fader support would be a bigtime bonus addition to the program... especially for the fiddly bus volume controls! All these new DXi's and all that mlarky would be good 2, but you guys know that already right?! :oP
*simple* MIDI sequencing with editing would be great, but I wouldn't go overboard... the audio side is where it's at!
A page on your website with recommended accompanying hardware, sound cards and the like. and links would be great too.
OK, I know that I should upgrade from 2.0b, but I have a few mission critical projects, and once those are out the way, I will! I have no way of knowing if this bug is in later versions.
Basically, I route tracks down into busses for convenient mixing. For example, distorted guitars to one group, over and under snare mikes to another group etc. And more convential stuff like setting up reverb auxes. My usual reverb is the TC native reverb. and rarely a few others... usually I can get what I need out of that!
What I like to do is then run a load of plugins over each bus. My usual bus channel setup on each channel would be the usual vegas noise gate, EQ, compression, and then sonic timeworks mastering compressor (setup so it acts as a limiter and stops the busses overloading.) this allows me to get really loud mixes. (you can imagine.. that on every instrument... most the time it doesn't kick in for instruments except drums, but it's a useful safeguard.)
the problem comes when I'm pushing lots of tracks. The machine copes fine, but after say 25 or 30 tracks, if you add or remove a plugin from the busses, Vegas crashes. This isn't a processing or disk issue because there's no stuttering of audio... I've pushed 72 tracks off this thing before! This means I can't add or remove any plugins off the busses when mixing, which is a pain in the ass really.
If anyone can help or has experienced the same thing, let me know!
To all the people out there wondering why this program isn't more widely used... it's less established. Vegas has only been going what? a couple of years, and look at what a mature product it is for version 2! if you think about it, Cubase and the like have been around in various incarnations for probably over a decade and a half! and are probably on their 12th revision or higher. It's simply what people know, and it's often hard to get people to shy away from that!
still, I'm sold, and I do recording for a living!
thanks again,
and I look forward to Vegas 3.
Time for sonic foundry to play with the big boys!
