TIFF files unreadable

This should probably be a support question, but you guys are so brilliant I thought I would try it here first.
I have been running Vegas 4 on one computer with no problems. I recently installed it on a second machine for convenience. On the second machine when I try to import a TIFF graphic file, or open a project that uses one, I get a error message "file format plugin for the specified format was not properly initialized." JPGs, BMPs and GIFs are no problem. I tried reinstalling, to no avail.
Obviously there are lots of workarounds, but it's inconvenient. Can anyone give me a clue?

Make sure you have the full version of Quicktime installed. When you install Quicktime, accept the defaults, don't uncheck any of the options. Then you'll be able to read .tiff files

Like I say, you guys are brilliant. It works like a champ now, and there's no way I would have ever figured it out on my own,. Thanks!
