Time Code Possibilities for Multicam

I'm planning on shooting a multicamera 60 minutes concert on Mini-DV. Live audio will be recorded digitally on ADAT's. The sound guy was wondering if I would like him to feed LTC to each camera's audio track. Would this help me sync things up in Vegas during post?

On previous similar projects, syncing has gone smoothly in Vegas UNLESS there's a drop-out in the tape. Using Vegas Capture w/ Scene Detection turned ON, Vegas Capture will create a new AVI file whenever a drop-out/break is detected. With Scene Detection turned OFF during capture, I'll only have a single AVI file, but it won't be in sync if there's a drop-out, plus it's harder to find the "missing frames".

What's the most efficient way to sync up all the tapes in post?

The time code method is not really necessary with NLE. All you need to do is identify the same moment on all camera tracks - easiest using audio, and finding the most sudden sharp sound will make this easier.

If you're doing a muticam edit you really must get the new Excalibur (see references in this forum). It's a brilliant use of Vegas's scripting feature, and will save you so much time.

You shouldn't be experiencing dropouts unless you're re-using old tapes, but it's easy enough to get round this by splitting and shifting the next segment back into sync.
