Time/Date display in home video!

Biomech wrote on 3/27/2004, 10:26 AM
I am a newbe to this forum as well as video editing. My background is more related to digitizing human motion for analyzing velocities and accelerations of athletic performances. My question is, does anyone know of a technique to erase or hide a time/date display that has been taken on home videos. I have a few clips I am editing that others have recorded with the time/date display which is very unattractive and distracting. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Virtual Dub has a time/date filter, I'll assume you can use the new WAX plugin from debugmode to insert this filter, but I've not tried it yet.

For a few short clips you could probably get away with a Picture in Picture, using a piece of the video that came close to the background over which the date/time shows; e.g., leaves, grass, etc. Use a blur and soft edge on the PnP.

I've done this successfully with still pictures in a paint program -- that is, cloned a little piece of the background and pasted it over the date/time. It would be worth a try in your situation.

Depending on how high up in the frame the time/date info is, you could always apply a letterbox-type effect to the video.

There is a plugin that you can use, either in VirtualDub, or via the Wax plugin available at www.debugmode.com.

Here is other information that I previously provided to other forum members:

You need to save the mask as a 720x480 BMP file.
