time lapse software?

I have a Sony HDR-SR12 and edit with VMS 9.

My old Sony HC-42 handycam had a time lapse feature that worked great. My new handycam doesn't have that feature.

So is there software I can buy or download to get the same effect.

I was aslo thinking about taking an hour long clip of something like a sunrise and shrink the clip in editing. Then render that clip and continue to import it back into editing to shrink it again and again to get it down to less than a minute. Sounds like a pain but seems like it could work.

Thoughts?

That works very well. It gets 4 times faster each time too.

Turning off resampling will make it go faster and give you a sharper result. Forcing resampling may give a smoother result, but it might also be a little blurry and will take a lot longer.

For the clip you want in the timeline, do the following in its properties dialog:
Turn off resample
4.000 speed up
0.100 undersample rate

Why undersample at 0.1?

It gives it a more stop motion feel, if the user wants that look. Not necessary though.

OK. But if the user wants the image smooth then the undersample shouldn't be used.
