Timeline does not auto-stop at the end of the last event.

Alok-Sharma wrote on 6/2/2021, 12:24 AM

Hi,

I had earlier noticed this problem is Vegas Pro 18 and now in Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 17 also.

Normally the timeline should stop playing after it reaches the end of the last event. However, in both the above software's, it is not happening. The timeline continues to play even after it has reached the last event.

I am not sure if this is a bug or the default behaviour. If it's not a bug, then is there any setting to prevent this behaviour?

Not a bug. There is an internal predefined virtual minimum length for a project (which is 2 minutes by default) and also a predefined length for the cursor to run after the end of a project (which is 2 seconds by default).

It's only adjustable via internal settings. Setting "Play past end of project" to a value of 0 will stop playback immediately at the end (any kind of markers belong to a project, so if there are markers beyond a last timeline event, that will count, too).
And, for instance, if you set "Mininum project display length" to a value of 20000000, the virtual minium length of a project will be 2 seconds.

Thank you @Marco.

I am unable to find "Play past end of project" and "Mininum project display length" neither in Options > Preferences nor Project Settings.

Can you please point out where exactly can I find this setting?

Also, I believe the above settings would be available in both Vegas Pro 18 & Vega Movie Studio Platinum 17.

Thank you, Marco.

It is working precisely as desired.

P.S. Some of my posts may sound like childish as I am still an amateur in video editing and striving to learn Vegas Pro 18 / Vegas Movie Studio 17 Platinum.

Thanks,

Alok

Unfortunatelly in Vegas Pro and Movie Studio the timeline playback does not (automatically) pause but stop instead which makes the timeline cursor always jumping back to the time the playback started.

Yes, I just noticed it.

But it's alright because at least the video stops playing otherwise I had to manually stop it which was very inconvenient.

With my VMS17 Platinum Stop has it jump back to the start point but Pause stops and restarts it from where the cursor is. Also in Preferences/General there's an option to "Make spacebar and F12 Play/Pause instead of Play/Stop". I assume Pro is the same.

Thanks @EricLNZ

I was looking for this feature but instead trying to achieve it by modifying the shortcut keys behaviour, but it was not working. Surprisingly, I never noticed the "Make spacebar and F12 Play/Pause instead of Play/Stop" in Preferences > General, though I several times went through it. Maybe I overshot this option.

Anyway, thanks for the wonderful tip, it has made it easy for me to play/pause the video.

Got it, thanks :-)

Yes, but this is a different process as the one I meant. That option above determines how manually stop/pause works (when using spacebar/enter). But this option has no influence on the automatic stop function defined via the internal preferences which is automatically applied at/after the end of the project.
For this particular case, there is no automatic pause, only an automatic stop. At least I'm not aware of any setting to change this behaviour.

I tried in my project to ad 0 as a value but still waits for 2 seconds before it stops.
